Carmarthen GP Specialty Training Scheme

Welcome to the website of the Carmarthen GP Vocational Training Scheme (GP VTS). From August 2007 we became known as the Carmarthen GP Specialty Training Scheme.

This site will provide you with information about the VTS scheme - including the organisers, the ethos and the structure.

You can find out about the hospitals involved, and the jobs available at each one, including details of shift patterns and staffing levels.  There is a list of training practices and trainers that are involved, with information about the size and location of each practice.

The structure of the teaching programme is outlined, with all tutorials available for download, as well as summaries of hot topic discussions and a half day timetable.

For those thinking about coming to train in the region, there is information about things to do in and around Carmarthen, local schools and the cost of living.

You can find your way around the site by clicking on the boxes in the navigation bar on the left hand side of the screen.

John and Ruth, the Carmarthen Course Directors would like to welcome all new ST doctors to the Scheme. The new year started on September 9 2008. We would also recommend that you visit the GP Specialty Training in Wales  website where you will find all details pertaining to GP training in Wales.

We always welcome comments and questions about the scheme.

Please contact either of the 2 Course Organisers: John Rees

or Ruth Williams if you require any further information about coming to do your GP training in Carmarthenshire.

Alternatively you can contact Sue Harrison VTS Secretary by e-mail at or in writing at: Postgrad Centre, Francis Well,
